Details

This 100% cotton woven blanket features Katsushika Hokusai’s Yahagi Bridge at Okazaki on the Tōkaidō, a Japanese color woodblock print from around 1834 and part of his Remarkable Views of Bridges in Various Provinces series.

The sweeping wooden bridge dominates the composition, carrying a procession of travelers high above the riverbed while small figures, winding waterways, distant hills, and Mount Fuji complete the expansive landscape. This version is based on the public-domain impression held by the Art Institute of Chicago from the Bruce Goff Archive. Its aged, understated palette gives the scene a softer appearance, with muted blue-green and gray tones through the riverbed and landscape, warm tan and ochre coloring, and subdued reddish-brown tones along the bridge and its tall wooden supports. Against the lightly toned sky, the darker trees, distant landscape, and delicate blue waterways create a restrained contrast that emphasizes the graceful arch of the bridge and Hokusai’s dramatic use of perspective.

Woven from 100% cotton and finished with colorful fringed edges, the blanket gives Hokusai’s Japanese woodblock artwork a textured textile finish. The cotton construction is soft, breathable, and durable, with four sizes available for different spaces.
