Comfort means something different to everyone, and the artwork we use at Comfort Guild reflects that variety.
Some of our designs are created entirely by people. Some use artificial intelligence as part of the creative process. Others feature historical artwork that is already in the public domain and is intentionally presented in its original form.
This page explains how we approach those different types of artwork, what rights Comfort Guild claims, what rights we do not claim, and how our content may and may not be used.

## 2. COMFORT GUILD™ TRADEMARK
**Comfort Guild™** is used by us as a trademark and source identifier for our products, services, storefront, and brand.
We claim all trademark, unfair competition, trade dress, and related rights available to us through our use of the Comfort Guild name and branding in commerce.
The Comfort Guild name, logo, branding elements, product presentation, and other source-identifying materials may not be used in a way that falsely suggests affiliation with, sponsorship by, endorsement from, or association with Comfort Guild.
Use of the “™” symbol indicates our claim of trademark rights and does not mean that the mark is federally registered.

# 3. OUR APPROACH TO ARTWORK
Comfort Guild uses artwork from several different creative sources.
We believe it is important to be transparent about that.
Artwork used on our products generally falls into one of three categories:
- original human-authored artwork;
- public-domain artwork; and
- AI-assisted or AI-generated artwork.
The rights associated with each category are different, so we do not treat them all the same.

## 4. ORIGINAL HUMAN-AUTHORED ARTWORK
Some Comfort Guild designs are created by people and are original to Comfort Guild or are used by us with appropriate permission.
These works may include original illustrations, graphics, compositions, lettering, layouts, photographs, or other creative material.
Where applicable, this artwork is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
Purchasing a product featuring original Comfort Guild artwork gives you ownership of the physical product you purchased.
It does **not** give you ownership of the underlying artwork or permission to reproduce it on other products, use it commercially, distribute digital copies, create competing merchandise from it, or otherwise reuse it without permission.

## 5. PUBLIC-DOMAIN ARTWORK
Some Comfort Guild products feature historical or other artwork that we believe to be in the public domain in the United States.
We use public-domain artwork because we genuinely appreciate the original works and believe they can still be enjoyed in new settings today.
In many cases, we intentionally leave public-domain artwork in its original form rather than altering it.
**Comfort Guild does not claim copyright ownership over the underlying public-domain artwork simply because it appears on one of our products or on our website.**
If an artwork is truly in the public domain, people may independently obtain and use that underlying work from another lawful source.
However, that does not mean everything surrounding the artwork on the Comfort Guild website is public domain.
For example, Comfort Guild may still own or control rights in:
- our product photography;
- product mockups;
- written descriptions;
- graphics;
- logos and branding;
- promotional materials;
- page layouts;
- product presentation;
- collection organization;
- photographs and videos;
- packaging; and
- other original material created by or for Comfort Guild.
A public-domain artwork may therefore be free for independent use while Comfort Guild's particular presentation of that artwork remains separately protected.

## 6. AI-ASSISTED & AI-GENERATED ARTWORK
Some Comfort Guild designs are created with the assistance of artificial intelligence tools or may include elements produced through generative AI systems.
We do not believe that using AI automatically makes every work the same.
In some cases, AI may be one part of a larger creative process that also includes human decisions, editing, composition, selection, arrangement, refinement, modification, typography, or other creative contributions.
Where a work contains protectable human-authored elements, Comfort Guild claims rights in those human-created portions to the extent permitted by law.
Where a particular element is created entirely by an automated system and does not qualify for copyright protection under applicable law, Comfort Guild does not claim copyright in that purely machine-generated element beyond whatever rights may legally exist.
Other aspects of the product or presentation may still be independently protected, including Comfort Guild branding, product photography, mockups, written content, graphics, layouts, and other human-created material.

## 7. WHAT COMFORT GUILD OWNS — AND WHAT WE DO NOT
We want this distinction to be clear.
Comfort Guild may own or control rights in original material created by or for the shop, including artwork, written content, photography, product presentation, branding, graphics, layouts, and other creative materials.
We do **not** claim ownership simply because something appears on a Comfort Guild product.
In particular:
- we do not claim copyright ownership over an underlying public-domain artwork merely because we sell a product featuring it;
- we do not claim copyright protection over material that applicable law does not recognize as copyrightable; and
- we do not claim ownership of third-party intellectual property that belongs to its respective owner.
At the same time, the presence of public-domain or otherwise unprotected material on a product does not place Comfort Guild's separate original content, branding, photography, mockups, written descriptions, or presentation into the public domain.

# 8. PURCHASING A PRODUCT DOES NOT INCLUDE REPRODUCTION RIGHTS
When you purchase a Comfort Guild product, you are purchasing the physical item itself.
Unless we specifically agree otherwise in writing, your purchase does not include:
- copyright ownership;
- trademark rights;
- digital source files;
- commercial reproduction rights;
- manufacturing rights;
- sublicensing rights; or
- permission to reproduce Comfort Guild artwork or content on other products.
Please enjoy the product you purchased, give it as a gift, display it, wear it, or use it normally.
What you may not do is treat the purchase as a license to copy Comfort Guild content and manufacture or sell your own version.
This restriction applies to Comfort Guild Content and does not prevent lawful independent use of an underlying public-domain artwork obtained from another legitimate source.

# 9. COPYING, REPRODUCTION & COMMERCIAL USE
Unless Comfort Guild gives prior written permission, Comfort Guild Content may not be copied, reproduced, scanned, traced, downloaded, extracted, distributed, republished, sold, sublicensed, or used to manufacture other products.
You may not use Comfort Guild product photos, mockups, descriptions, graphics, website materials, or branding to create competing listings or products.
You also may not represent another product or business as being produced by, affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by, or associated with Comfort Guild when it is not.

# 10. SCRAPING, DATA HARVESTING & AUTOMATED COLLECTION
We want customers to be able to find Comfort Guild through search engines, shopping tools, and AI-powered discovery services.
We do **not** authorize bulk scraping or data harvesting of our website.
Automated systems may access Comfort Guild content when doing so is reasonably necessary for legitimate:
- search indexing;
- product discovery;
- shopping search;
- citation;
- linking;
- recommendation;
- user-requested retrieval; or
- referral to Comfort Guild.
However, our website and content may not be systematically scraped, harvested, downloaded, archived, or collected in bulk for unauthorized commercial databases, content repositories, datasets, model development, or similar purposes.

# 11. AI SEARCH, PRODUCT DISCOVERY & AI TRAINING
We make an important distinction between **AI helping someone find Comfort Guild** and **AI systems using Comfort Guild content to train models**.
We welcome legitimate search engines, AI-powered search services, shopping assistants, and recommendation systems that help users discover, compare, cite, link to, or purchase Comfort Guild products.
For example, an AI shopping service may identify one of our products in response to a customer's request and direct that customer to Comfort Guild.
That kind of product discovery is not what we are trying to restrict.
What we do **not** authorize, without prior written permission, is using Comfort Guild Content for:
- AI model training;
- pre-training;
- fine-tuning;
- reinforcement learning;
- machine-learning datasets;
- image datasets;
- text corpora;
- dataset creation or augmentation;
- synthetic training-data generation;
- bulk model-evaluation datasets;
- model-development databases; or
- supplying Comfort Guild Content to another company or organization for those purposes.
Permission for a search engine or AI service to find, index, cite, recommend, or link to Comfort Guild does **not** create permission to use that same content to train an AI model.
Similarly, the fact that content can be viewed publicly on our website does not mean we are granting permission for it to be harvested into training datasets.

# 12. SEARCH ENGINES, AI ASSISTANTS & SHOPPING SERVICES
Legitimate search engines and product-discovery services may use reasonable technical processing necessary to help users locate Comfort Guild products.
This may include ordinary indexing, temporary caching, search snippets, retrieval, citations, product summaries, or similar functions.
We do not object to an AI assistant answering a user's question by saying, in substance, that a relevant Comfort Guild product exists and providing a link or referral to our store.
We do object to Comfort Guild content being systematically collected and retained for purposes unrelated to legitimate discovery, including unauthorized model training, dataset construction, bulk content replication, or creation of competing product catalogs.

# 13. TECHNICAL ACCESS RULES
Comfort Guild may use crawler instructions, robots.txt rules, metadata, platform settings, HTTP headers, rate limits, or other technical measures to communicate how automated systems may access our website.
Different automated systems may be given different permissions.
For example, a crawler used for search or shopping discovery may be permitted while a crawler primarily used for model training may be restricted.
Permission granted to one crawler or service should not be interpreted as permission granted to every automated system.
Automated services are expected to respect applicable technical restrictions and crawler-specific instructions.

# 14. THIRD-PARTY DATASETS & MODEL PROVIDERS
Comfort Guild Content obtained from our website may not be sold, licensed, contributed, uploaded, transferred, or supplied to an AI developer, model provider, dataset provider, data broker, machine-learning company, or similar organization for unauthorized model training or dataset development.
This restriction is not intended to prevent ordinary search results, citations, links, product recommendations, or customer referrals.

If you have a question about the source of artwork used on a Comfort Guild product, our intellectual property practices, or whether a particular use of Comfort Guild Content is permitted, please contact us.
We are also happy to receive requests for permission where someone would like to use Comfort Guild-owned material for a specific purpose.

Nothing on this page is intended to claim rights that Comfort Guild does not legally possess or to restrict rights that applicable law does not permit us to restrict.
