Details

This 100% cotton woven blanket features Waterloo Bridge, Gray Day (1903) by Claude Monet capturing London’s Waterloo Bridge and the River Thames through the shifting haze that captured the interest of the Impressionist painter during his time in the city.

Part of Monet’s celebrated Waterloo Bridge series, which forms a sub-series within his larger London series developed during his visits to the city. Working from the Savoy Hotel overlooking the Thames, the Waterloo Bridge series reflects his fascination with capturing the same London landscape as changing weather, fog, light, and industrial smoke continually altered the appearance of the river.

Rendered in soft, atmospheric layers of muted blue, lavender, gray, pink, and brown, the bridge stretches across the Thames beneath a misty sky. Cobalt-blue shadows deepen beneath its arches, while touches of teal and warm orange suggest movement and traffic along the bridge. Small boats emerge from the water below, and the distant buildings and smokestacks of London dissolve into cool blue silhouettes through the haze. Rather than emphasizing sharp architectural detail, Monet transforms the scene through light, color, reflection, and visible brushwork. Soft pink smoke drifts across the bridge while the river mirrors the subdued tones above, giving the composition the hazy, almost dreamlike quality characteristic of Monet’s London paintings.

The artwork is reproduced across a woven cotton surface and finished with colorful fringed edges, giving the blanket the texture and detail of a woven textile rather than a flat printed image. Soft, breathable, and durable, it is available in four sizes.
