This 100% woven cotton blanket features The Millinery Shop (1879–1886) by Edgar Degas offers an intimate glimpse into the fashionable world of a nineteenth-century Parisian hat shop and translates this artwork into a textured fine art throw with colorful fringed edges. 

In The Millinery Shop, a woman sits among an assortment of elaborate hats, studying the broad-brimmed piece in her hands. Degas leaves her role deliberately uncertain. Her gloved hands and pursed lips—possibly holding a pin—suggest a milliner carefully working on a hat, yet her fashionable fur-trimmed clothing also allows her to be read as a customer examining a potential purchase. This ambiguity developed as Degas revised the composition, giving the scene an unusually open-ended quality.

The hats command much of the painting, with greens, creams, blues, yellows, and floral tones set against the quieter interior of the shop. The elevated viewpoint, cropped composition, and asymmetrical arrangement are characteristic of Degas’s interest in modern Parisian life, while the subject connects the work to the fashion and millinery trade of the late nineteenth century and gives the painting the feeling of a fleeting view into everyday Parisian life.
