The Lady and the Unicorn: Hearing Woven Blanket
Details
This 100% cotton woven blanket features Hearing, one of the five sense-themed scenes from the late-medieval The Lady and the Unicorn tapestry series and brings the captivating beauty of medieval art into your home. The lady sits at a small portative organ while her attendant operates its bellows, representing the sense of hearing through music.
Created around 1500, Hearing belongs to the six-piece ensemble also known as La Dame à la licorne. The elegantly dressed lady appears alongside the collection's iconic lion and unicorn set against the series' characteristic red millefleurs field, surrounded by dense flowers, trees, animals, and heraldic banners. Here, the organ and its richly detailed setting distinguish the composition from the other five scenes. The original tapestry is held with the complete series at the Musée de Cluny in Paris.
Woven in 100% cotton and finished with colorful fringed edges, this blanket carries the rich symbolism and old-world character of medieval tapestry art into a living room, bedroom, reading nook, or art-inspired home with the scene's detailed instrument, figures, foliage, and animals in a textured woven format.
