The Great Wave off Kanagawa Woven Blanket – Katsushika Hokusai
Details
This Great Wave off Kanagawa woven blanket features Katsushika Hokusai’s iconic Japanese ukiyo-e artwork on 100% woven cotton, finished with colorful fringed edges. Available in four sizes, it turns one of the best-known works of Japanese art into a textured fine art blanket while keeping Hokusai’s original composition at the center of the design.
Created around 1830–32 during Japan’s Edo period, The Great Wave off Kanagawa is part of Hokusai’s celebrated Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series. The woodblock print places three boats beneath a towering cresting wave, while Mount Fuji appears small and still in the distance. Hokusai’s dramatic use of scale and perspective, along with the rich blue tones that included the then relatively new Prussian blue pigment, helped make the image one of the most recognizable works of Japanese art.
The artwork is shown here woven rather than presented as a flat paper print, the cotton construction gives the image a distinctly textile character while the fringe creates a finished edge.
Made for Hokusai admirers, Japanese art lovers, ukiyo-e enthusiasts, and anyone who prefers home decor with some history behind it.
