JOB Cigarette Papers (1897) by Alphonse Mucha is a celebrated example of late-19th-century Art Nouveau advertising art. Originally created as a color lithograph advertising JOB cigarette papers, the composition centers on a glamorous woman holding a lit cigarette, her head tilted back as dramatically flowing curls fill much of the image. Wisps of smoke rise in graceful curves, visually intertwining with her abundant hair and the decorative lines of the composition.
The historic JOB lettering and monograms are integral elements of Mucha’s original 1896 poster, appearing throughout the patterned background behind the figure.
