A Mild Breeze on a Fine Day (Red Fuji) Woven Blanket – Katsushika Hokusai
Details
This 100% cotton woven blanket features Katsushika Hokusai’s A Mild Breeze on a Fine Day, the Mount Fuji woodblock print widely known as Red Fuji, from his celebrated Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series.
Created around 1831 during Japan’s Edo period, this ukiyo-e landscape gives Mount Fuji nearly the entire stage. The reddish-brown mountain rises above a narrow band of green forest beneath a deep blue sky and slender white clouds, with no human figures to distract from its scale. Museum collections also identify the work under English titles including South Wind, Clear Sky and Fine Wind, Clear Morning, all referring to the same famous Red Fuji design.
Hokusai’s original composition is translated here into a 100% cotton woven blanket with colorful fringed edges. The woven construction gives the artwork a tactile textile surface while preserving the strong geometry and restrained palette that make the image so recognizable.
