The Water-Lily Pond Woven Blanket – Claude Monet
Details
This 100% cotton woven blanket features Claude Monet’s The Water-Lily Pond, the 1899 Impressionist painting of his water garden at Giverny, France. Water lilies drift beneath the Japanese-style footbridge Monet built over the pond, surrounded by dense foliage and shifting reflections rendered in layered greens, blues, violets, and pinks.
Monet created his water garden after acquiring additional land beside his Giverny home in 1893. Inspired in part by the Japanese prints he admired and collected, he shaped the garden around a lily pond and arched footbridge that would become defining subjects of his later work. He returned to the water garden across roughly 250 paintings, studying the changing effects of light, color, reflection, and vegetation.
The Water-Lily Pond was painted in 1899 and is now held by the National Gallery in London. On this woven art blanket, Monet’s garden scene becomes a textile piece for people whose taste in home decor includes a love of Impressionist art.
