The Lady and the Unicorn: Sight Woven Blanket
Details
This 100% cotton woven blanket features Sight, one of the five senses represented in the late-medieval The Lady and the Unicorn tapestry series. At the center of the scene, the seated lady holds a mirror while the unicorn gazes at its own reflection.
The mirror makes the allegory of sight explicit, while the surrounding composition retains the details that connect Sight to the larger six-piece series: the lion, unicorn, heraldic imagery, trees, flowers, and richly patterned millefleurs ground. Dating to around 1500, the original tapestry belongs to the La Dame à la licorne ensemble now preserved at the Musée de Cluny in Paris.
Woven in 100% cotton and finished with colorful fringed edges, this blanket carries the rich symbolism and old-world character of medieval tapestry art into a living room, bedroom, reading nook, or art-inspired home with the scene's dense botanical field and central mirror scene details in a textured woven format.
