The Lady and the Unicorn À Mon Seul Désir Woven Blanket, Medieval Tapestry Art Throw
Details
This 100% cotton woven blanket features À Mon Seul Désir, the enigmatic sixth scene from The Lady and the Unicorn (La Dame à la licorne) tapestry series. Created around 1500, the scene places the lady before a blue tent inscribed “À mon seul désir,” accompanied by her attendant and the collection's iconic lion and unicorn.
Unlike the other five tapestries in the series, which represent the senses, À Mon Seul Désir resists a single interpretation. An attendant presents an open casket while the lady handles jewelry, and the meaning of that gesture has long been debated. The uncertainty is part of the work's fascination. Set against the series' richly populated millefleurs ground, the scene combines heraldry, animals, flowers, and one of medieval tapestry art's most recognizable inscriptions. The original tapestry is preserved with the rest of the series at the Musée de Cluny in Paris.
Woven in 100% cotton and finished with colorful fringed edges, this blanket carries the rich symbolism and old-world character of medieval tapestry art into a living room, bedroom, reading nook, or art-inspired home with the scene's intricate red, blue, floral, and figurative details in a textured woven format.
