Muscinae Moss Woven Blanket by Ernst Haeckel
Details
This 100% cotton woven blanket features Muscinae, Plate 72 from Ernst Haeckel’s Kunstformen der Natur (Art Forms in Nature), a 1904 natural-history illustration devoted to the intricate forms of mosses.
Muscinae gathers an array of moss species into a dense botanical composition of leafy growth, slender stems, and spore-bearing capsules. Greens, rust reds, warm golds, and earthy browns give the plate the feeling of a miniature forest while preserving the close observational detail that defines Haeckel’s scientific art.
Kunstformen der Natur was published in installments from 1899 to 1904, bringing together 100 plates exploring patterns and forms across the natural world. Haeckel developed the imagery from his scientific sketches, working with lithographer Adolf Giltsch to translate those drawings into the finished color plates.
Rendered as a woven cotton blanket, the illustration takes on a textured, tapestry-like quality that suits the dense detail of the original composition. Colorful fringe finishes the edges, while the 100% cotton construction is soft, breathable, and durable.
