The Japanese Footbridge Woven Blanket – Claude Monet
Details
This 100% cotton woven blanket features Claude Monet's The Japanese Footbridge, the 1899 Impressionist painting of his celebrated garden in Giverny, France. A blue-green bridge arches above a pond filled with water lilies, surrounded by dense greenery and reflections rendered in layered greens, blues, pinks, and soft yellow.
Monet had transformed the property’s water garden himself, creating the pond, selecting its plantings and adding the Japanese-style arched bridge that became one of the most recognizable subjects of his later work. In 1899, he painted 12 views from a single vantage point, focusing on the bridge, pond, water lilies, foliage, using loose brushwork and shifting color to capture the interplay of light, water, foliage, and reflection. The garden would become an enduring source of inspiration for Monet and the setting for many of his famous water lily paintings.
The woven construction gives Monet's garden scene a distinctly textured surface, while multicolored fringe finishes the edges of the blanket. It is available in four sizes for different spaces and uses.
