This 100% cotton woven blanket features Vincent van Gogh's Irises, the 1889 floral painting he began shortly after arriving at Saint-Paul-de-Mausole in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France. Tall irises, dense green leaves, reddish earth, and touches of yellow fill the cropped composition, creating the vivid contrasts that make the painting immediately recognizable.

Van Gogh painted Irises from the hospital garden in May 1889, it was one of the first paintings he completed during his stay. Its cropped composition and broad areas of color were likely influenced by the decorative patterning of Japanese woodblock prints, an important influence on his work. Modern conservation research by the J. Paul Getty Museum has also revealed something that isn't obvious from looking at the painting today: many of the irises that now appear blue were originally violet, with a light-sensitive red pigment gradually fading over time. Today, Irises is part of the collection of the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles and remains one of Van Gogh’s most recognizable floral works.
