This 100% cotton woven blanket features Stechas, or French Lavender, Plate 241 from Volume I of Elizabeth Blackwell’s A Curious Herbal, published in 1737. The botanical illustration depicts French lavender (Lavandula stoechas) with slender green stems, narrow leaves, and distinctive violet-purple flower heads, with smaller studies of the plant’s details arranged around the central specimen.

Blackwell created A Curious Herbal as an illustrated reference to plants used in 18th-century medicine and botany. Issued between 1737 and 1739, the completed work contained 500 botanical plates that Blackwell drew, engraved, and colored herself. Plate 241 belongs to the first volume and reflects the careful observation and understated beauty that make early botanical illustration so distinctive.

Woven into the blanket, the muted greens, lavender-purple flowers, and warm neutral background give the design the character of an antique herbal or historical botanical print. The blanket is woven from 100% cotton and finished with colorful fringed edges, giving the artwork texture without competing with its fine details.
